Difference Between Vertical Sump Pumps and Horizontal Slurry Pumps
During the slurry pump selection, we do not only consider the flow, head, specific gravity, particle size and PH value etc, we also need to take the cover place of slurry pumps and the pipeline system arrangement etc into account to select a proper pump type.
So we need to consider several factors when we select slurry pump type below:
1. Installation space: The horizontal slurry pumps cover a much bigger space than the vertical sump pump. And the vertical slurry pumps covers a smaller space with a lighter weight. So when the space is limited, we can select the vertical slurry pumps.
2. Maintenance: Horizontal slurry pumps are installed above the water level, which is easy to make the maintenance. The vertical slurry pumps are installed below water level, it is not convenient to do maintenance.
3. Start-up model: The horizontal slurry pumps needs the flood suction to start up. Then the slurry can automatically flush into the pump chamber without driving the pump. The start up for the vertical sump pumps does not need the flood suction. Its impeller is submerged into the water, and it has much better suction performance . It can be used in the working condition which does not have efficient suction.
4. Structure：The main difference is the shaft direction. In addition, the horizontal slurry pumps are usually double casing and vertical sump pumps are usually with single casing. And there is no shaft seal for the sump pump, while the horizontal slurry pumps are with three kinds of shaft seal: centrifugal seal, gland seal and mechanical seal!
